Getting to the Bergfrieden
The Stelvio National Park extends over a surface of 134.620 hectares, right in the middle of the Central Alps.
It comprises the entire Ortles-Cevedale Massif and all the side valleys.
The original law protecting this magnificent mountain scenery dates back to 1935 and in 1977 the park was enlarged to its present size. About 40 percent of the national park area is located in South Tyrol. 11 municipalities in South Tyrol’s Venosta / Vinschgau Valley and upper Val d'Ultimo / Ultental Valley are part of the park, from the valley floor at 700 meters above sea level up to the glaciers at almost 4000 m. Your hosts in the National Park place great emphasis on environmentally friendly management and on the use of local products.
